Is Isomil Soy Milk Powder Safe For A 3 Month Old Infant?

default
Posted on Thu, 25 Feb 2016
Question: My child is 3 months old. He was 1.97 kgs at birth and 4.3 kgs now. His delivery was preponed by approx 20 days. Since last 25 days, his passes stools which are green in colour. So my pead has advised to shift to Isomil soy milk instead of Nan1 along with mothers milk. But still intermittently, the stools are green in colour. He takes feeds through spoon-wati feeding and sometimes directly from mother
I have two questions . is the growth in weight adequate. Is Isomil healthy for long run and how do we solve this issue of green colour stools

thanks

Brief Answer:
It is normal. Not a cause of concern.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

The weight gain of your child seems pretty good and you need not worry about the same. Let me mention that breast milk is the best possible feed for your baby and there can be no alternatives for the same. It is normal for a baby of this age to pass stool several times a day, even after each feed. (Even passing stool once in 10 days is normal.) Greenish stool is due to rapid transit through the large intestine where the fecal matter does not get adequate time to convert the greenish colour of bile to yellowish pigment that colours our stool. It is not a cause for concern and needs no intervention. Just continue breast feeding. I will strongly speak against Isomil or other formula milks. You need not try to resolve the greenish colour of stool.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
