I’m 46, Post Menopausal, And Using Metronidazole Gel ( Metrogel

Question: I’m 46, post menopausal, and using metronidazole gel (Metrogel) for bacterial vaginosis for five days. After the first application I started to see both bright red and dark brown flecks of blood mixed in with the gel when it would come back out. I thought it had stopped but am seeing streaks of bright red blood on the applicator. Three years ago I had a D&C done because of a thickened endometrial lining, everything was fine but I was told to report any vaginal bleeding from that point on. I’m not having any bleeding/spotting except for the little bit that is mixed in with the gel coming back out, and I hadn’t had any up to this point. Do I need to consider this vaginal bleeding or is it something that can happen with this medication? I leave for a holiday for two weeks and won’t be able to see a doctor until I’m home. Will that be safe?

Brief Answer:
It is because of hormonal imbalance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting us about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
Your symptoms could be due to hormonal imbalance but it is better to rule out endometrial carcinoma through endometrial biopsy.
Get your pelvic ultrasound, hb,thyroid profile and vaginal paps smear.
Spotting could be due to vaginal infection also but not with the medicine.
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
Good luck
