Brief Answer:
normally a low dose such as 500 mg

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Metformin is one of the better medications for prediabetes and diabetes.

In a prediabetic, the dose used would be one of the lower ones. The aim is metformin 500 mg once daily . It can be started at this dose or at 250 mg and then increased to 500 mg after a week or 2.

The reason that some persons are started on a lower dose which is then increased to a higher one is to avoid the stomach upset that can occur in some individuals with metformin.

Some do have have stomach upset at all and tolerate the 500 mg or higher doses (if needed ) well.

Maximum dose of the normal immediate release metformin is 1 g three times daily.

There is also a slow release form of metformin (metformin xr), that is well tolerated. The maximum tolerated dose of the slow release is 2 g once daily

Your doctor should advise you about the dose of medication you should start so that it can be documented in your medical notes

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you so much! Does it matter that the metformin has hydrochlorothizide in it?

Brief Answer:
that is also once daily

Detailed Answer:
Hydrochlorothiazide is taken once daily, the dose is either 12.5 mg or 25 mg. Either dose is only once daily

You can confirm which dose is present in the tablet that you are using

As mentioned, you should consider speaking to doctor so that any meds used can be documented

If there are any other queries, can let me know
