Question: I was having gastritis and my gastroenterologist suggested me the lab tests of which the reports are attached herewith. I am also very concerned as my father died of cancer and that might have an affect on me. So based on the reports here what would your conclusion?

Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. Your lab results are overall normal and I did not see anything that would concern me. Your hemoglobin is borderline low, but the ferritin is normal and your stool did not have any blood, so this is unlikely to be from any blood loss from your GI tract. I would consider this to be very reassuring that there are no signs of colon cancer (or any other kind of cancer), but at your age it would be best to get a screening colonoscopy every 10 years to make sure there is not any early lesions in the colon which might be able to be caught early and easily removed. But again, based on these labs I would not be concerned there is any cancer.
