Question: I think my daughter might have appendicitis.
Last night severe stomach pain and throwing up. Followed by a high fever of 102.8. After I gave her ibuprofen it went down. She has been able to pass gas and eat a little but it’s night time now and she’s sleeping but is telling me it still hurts.

Brief Answer:
Appendicitis is possible

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. Appendicitis is not as common in a 4 year old, but is still possible. Given the fever and that it is not clear that this is just from a gastroenteritis, which would normally have diarrhea, I would be concerned for this and would recommend that she be examined and possibly have her blood checked for signs of infection. Especially if she is not really able to eat much, and her abdomen seems tender when you push gently on it, especially in the lower abdomen on the right side, this would make me concerned for appendicitis and she should be evaluated. But even without these signs, with the fever and abdominal pain, I think she should be seen soon.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
