What Could Cause White Areas In The Inside Corners Of My Eyes?

Posted on Sat, 26 Feb 2022
Question: I have white areas in the corners where my eyes and nose come together. In years past I was told this is a symptom of a condition, maybe a lack of a vitamin or mineral. Would you know about this?

Brief Answer:
Bitiya spots.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Those spots of vitamin A deficiency were called Bitots spots. These primarily occur in infants with prolonged diarrhea, leading to vitamin A defeciancy. At your age they are different and are due to exposure to sun and light, called as pinguicula.I could confirm by looking at a photo of the eye.
These again are of no significance and are at best left alone and are not treated.
We could offer any medication if there was any symptom.Differentiation between bitot's spots and pingicule is purely academic,as both do not require any treatment.Send a clear photograph of the spot if you want to confirm.

I am aware I have arthritis of the spine. I have an ongoing pain on my right side just above and to the left of my hip bone. My primary doctor ordered an ultrasound of the area but it came back negative for anything. I also quite frequently have low back pain sometimes generating upwards toward the neck. I use a heating pad on my back when it is severe and I take Advil. I try to walk every day 1 1/2 to 2 miles. Do you think this is all connected with arthritis? Would you have any other treatment suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Eye problem not associated with arthritis.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

What you are doing for your arthritis is probably ok and there is not much which can be done, other than some amount of low grade flexibility exercises. This has to be done with lot of restrain, without overdoing.
Eye problem not associated with arthritis.
Do continue with walking and you must have some vitamin supplements.
Do get back to me in case of any further query in this regard.
