Question: I have been experiencing what I consider head rushes while falling asleep several times a night. As I start to fall asleep, I have the head rush sensation and my eyes go black for a few seconds, then I start to fall asleep and it happens over and over. I am not on any kind of cardiac or neurological medications. Age 58, Female. They are very concerning and I have sleep anxiety about falling asleep. What can I try to relieve these episodes? Feels like a black-out episode. Very scary!

The symptoms you describe, are most likely, related to sleep position and changes in intracranial pressure, laying down causes a rise in the intracranial pressure.

I don't think that yours is a serious condition and the anxiety that is causing this condition is worsening your issues.

I think that you should start with some adjustments such as, don't lay down immediately before sleep, sleep with the head elevated 20-30 degrees, etc.

You should also consult with a sleep specialist for more insight about your condition.
