Question: I have a tear on my penis and I just want to know if it is healing properly and if there is anything else I can do to speed up the healing. The wound has a white tissue in this that seems to be layering up but it is not flush with the skin. It has been about 2 weeks and has not closed.

Brief Answer:
penile tear healing properly. additional guidelines as below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query with attached photo image and here is my advise.

* The part in the center of the image is showing pretty well healing with
layering , though total flushing to the skin takes a bit more time.

Additional guidelines for faster healing

- Continue current application of Polysporin and Hydrocolloid .
- Avoid prolong bandaid application on continuous basis as it will hamper
the micro circulation of the penis skin.
You may choose to apply the dressing for 4-6 hours 2 times a day.
- Additional use of aloe vera gel once a day helps in natural way.
- Avoid masturbation and sex ( if active ).
- Nutritious diet with rich vitamin c source of organic fruits.
- Multi vitamin with anti oxidant contents also support very well.

Wish you best recovery.
Do feel free to discuss further regarding the same.

Thank you.
Regards.

I am just following up to my previous issue. You mentioned that full healing would take "a bit more time". It has been roughly three weeks since the last correspondence, and it has not healed. I would say that the surface area of the wound has not decreased at all. However, initially, when the wound first came about there was 3 black dots in the corners of the triangle that are no longer there. I have attached a more detailed photo showing as much detail as possible.

The injury was caused by a large amount of pressure. I just want to make sure that this is not a pressure ulcer. I would like to know if the wound bed contains any slough or necrotic tissue. Can you give me a time period of how long full healing will take? A couple of days, A couple of months, A year, Never? Is this the limit of how much healing will take place?

Brief Answer:
follow up .

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the follow up.
I have evaluated both of your attached images showing the lesion.

* The current status of area is not suggestive of pressure ulcer , slough or
necrotic tissue.
which shows foul smelling discharge, tissue redness, tenderness over the
area and else.

* The blackish areas at places are dead epithelia from previous infection and
needs to be gently removed with soft pressure after cleaning with
antiseptic liquid and below which you will find new granulation tissue
already formed.

* As per my surgical experience, the status of the penis lesion is healed
almost , but external appearance is not matching with normal tissue due
to two reasons
1. presence of scab ( black brownish )
2. remaining melanin pigmentation ( which will match the skin color with
surrounding skin ), the duration of which may be weeks to months.

* Again, I repeat that healing has taken place and the appearance if waiting
to match the previous look.

Hope this will satisfy your further doubts.
Regards.
