I Had Stage 3 Breast Cancer 10 Years Ago. I
Question: I had stage 3 Breast cancer 10 years ago. I had a lumpectomy at the Mayo Clinic .I quit the recommended chemo after a month and refused any radiation treatment whatsoever. I pursued a homeopathic course of treatment, and for seven or eight years, a strict vegetarian diet. I have averaged six days per week of exercise since my surgery. I am currently experiencing a nagging dry cough, shortness of breath. and unbelievable fatigue. My breathing while asleep is irregular and at times labored. In the last year I have gained about 35 pounds all in one concentrated area directly below my navel but above my vagina continuing around my hips and buttocks but no where else. I have not been to a Doctor since I quit the Chemo. I fear the worst...... Your thoughts?
Brief Answer:
Xray or MRI of lungs is needed.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
The weight gain is not so concerning. The more concerning is the fatigue and breathing difficulties.
You should have followed the chemotherapy and radiotherapy as advised by your doctor.
The worst possibility ( wishing I was wrong) is the spreading of metastatic tissue in lungs.
You should get further evaluated doing x-ray or MRI of the lungs to see their condition and exclude this possibility.
Then other tests may be done as spirometry.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
