Posted on Fri, 8 Feb 2019
Question: I had spinal (scoliosis) hardware removal one month ago. I have had severe muscle pain and spasms below my ribs in the front, sometimes going all around to the back and my abdomen is distended. I can not be upright for more than an hour then I have to lie down. When I lie down the pain is completely gone within a few minutes. My surgeon has no idea what’s going on.

Brief Answer:
could be spine instability.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
I have gone through your details and in my opinion , post hardware removal there is probably compression in the nerves at spine due to spine instability, brought on during weight bearing like standing and disappearing on lying down.
I suggest you get dynamic X rays - X rays in lying down and standing to see the difference.in vertebral shape and size.
Kindly post the x rays also for further evaluation.
Thanks for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
