Question: I had restylane in my cheeks removed with hylenex, and three days later I can barely move my left cheek, it wont contract, and my upper lip on my left side will not move. I had hylenex to my right as well but its not affected. I have seen a neurologist and he said it looks like bells palsy. My eye is not affected and I can wrinkle my forehead. I dont know whats happening. I am desperate for help. Can hylaronidase products destroy your nerves or muscles? I am so upset and dont know what to do.

Brief Answer:
The bells palsy will be reversible in few days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I believe it can be bells palsy due to inflammation of the facial nerve on the left side of the face. Probably the inflammation due to injections is more on the left side of face than on right side, more around facial nerve on left side.
I can recommend you to start having corticosteroid injections to reduce swelling. Also the swelling will be reduced as restylane interact with hylenex.
I believe the bells palsy you are having is reversible and you will be back to normal in few days as the inflammation and swelling gets down. Just continue prednisone as doctor recommend you.

Hope I have answered the question.

I have been on steroids for two weeks and no improvement. I can move my forehead, but cannot contract my cheek muscle or lift the left side of my mouth. Can something like hylenex cause permanent damage and I will never go back?

Brief Answer:
You may need more time to get better.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
There is no evidence that hylenex can cause permanent damage of nerves.
Bells palsy may need 2 weeks up to 6 months to get cured.
I think you should also do physical therapy to improve nerve functions.

Can hylenex damage muscle tissue or paralyze the muscle so that it wont function? Could it destroy something on a cellular level? I am worried because its been two weeks and I am not better. What kind of testing could they do to see if muscles are not working?

Brief Answer:
Meet a nephrologyst if you don't get better after three weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
Hylenex is not known to paralyse the muscles and make them kot to function. It can't destroy anything in molecular level.
You may wait for another a week before meeting a neurologist. It is supposed to get better in three weeks. There is no need for additional muscle tests.

OK that's good. You may need to wait another week to get a bit better.
Try physical therapy.
