Question: I had accidently touched a small bite injury on my puppy one and a half days after the bite while I was bathing him. The animal bitten my puppy is unidentified. I had a very small fish thorn injury in my finger with no spill of blood. Do I need to take Anti Rabies shots?. How much time the virus will survive near the bite wound surface. Kindly please advise me.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I understand your concern

Rabies virus spreads through direct contact of our mucus membrane(eye/mouth) or broken skin with saliva of animals(bites/licks). Spread does not occur with contact with a wound.

Here, since there was no such contact with saliva, there is absolutely no cause of concern. All that is needed is to wash your hands well with soap and water, as it may be contaminated with other pathogenic microbes.

If your puppy is vaccinated, he also is safe
