Question: I believe I irrated the gum now its like a sore from bruising and flossing for the first time infection in mouth or tooth going to dentist Monday is this a tooth abessess thanks is this bad news for the tooth

Thanks for writing in.

I would like to ask you whether this swelling is localised to one tooth or generalised to that side as i can’t really make out from pictures.Secondly, do you have pain from any specific tooth.
If its specific to one tooth and you have pain, then it can be periapical abscess related to that tooth and needs RCT or extraction. But if you have bleeding gums and loose teeth then it can be periodontal abscess which is related to infection of gums and can be cured by cleaning.
If there is no such symptoms then it can be simple case of trauma due to vigorous brushing or flossing.
You need to get proper examination done from your dentist to rule out exact cause.

As I have already mentioned, all are the possibilities but the exact diagnosis can be given after clinical examination. It's hard to say its tooth abscess without the x-ray.

A tooth abscess is not life-threatening and your tooth can be saved by Root Canal Treatment or Gum treatment depending upon the origin of the abscess. Can you please get an IOPAR X-ray of this side and send it to me, so that I can assist you further.

If there is nothing on x-ray and nothing relevant reported on clinical examination then it can be a traumatic injury. These types of injuries are never life-threatening and will settle with time. In the meantime, you can do gum massage and have multivitamins. You can apply anesthetic gel if it’s very sore. If it doesn’t resolve within 3 weeks then again get it checked.

Traumatic cyst occurs in response to trauma and resolves with in 7-10 days. Deep clean is cleaning under the gums and its needed for periodontal treatment.
