Question: I am a 46 year old female. Over the past month or two I have noticied that my feet become swollen towards the end of the day. I am on my feet alot I am a teacher. The swelling alos seesm to be more prominent the second half of my menstral cycle. I have been placed on 50 mg of metroprol for blood pressure issues. How do I know when to be concerned about swelling?

Hello

After going to the medical query raised by your can understand your concern and I would like to tell you that individuals involved in long-standing jobs can develop this sort of issues and are generally harmless during young age.

However, on the flip side this could also be due to recent onset of deep vein disease of lower legs (DVT).

To rule out this possibility it’s advisable to get lower limb venous Doppler study done. Just an ultrasound of legs.

Thanks for the reply. Will get it checked out. Just wondering if I shoukd be concerned that the swelling could be related to the beta blocker?

Beta blockers are not known to cause swelling in feet, it’s the calcium channel blocker’s which can cause this swelling.
