default
Posted on Thu, 8 May 2014
Question: My 5 months old daughter is now a days crying a lot to sleep. She always expects her mom to be with her which is not possible as my wife is working. So, I need to manage her at home for some 6 hours. For the past 2 days we tried to give pacifier to her and she comfortably sleeps with help of pacifier. But we also feel like we shouldn't spoil her this way then she will always expect either her mother or pacifier for sleeping. Please advice if there is any alternative for this struggle.

Brief Answer: It will require team management Detailed Answer: Namasthe Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Dear Mr XXXXXXX It's a very common scenario faced by working parents. Because of work obligation, home finance management it's not possible for the parents to be with the baby always. Pacifier are definitely not a long term solution. I would suggest you the following 1. Expressed breast milk: The mother can express the breast milk at night or early morning, store it in sterile glass container in refrigerator. When the baby demands feeds, the expressed breast feed can be feed to baby using watti and spoon. 2. Diaper change: routinely change the diaper after feeds and burp. Dry baby will sleep comfortably 3. Swaddle the baby: swaddle the baby in cotton cloth after feeds. Place the baby in jhula and gently rock it. Saying lulabay will also be helpful. 4. Massage and warm water bath: Fix the bedtime of baby by fixing time of bathing. Let it be a daily routine 5. Take turns to manage the baby. After all baby management is team work of husband and wife Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
