Brief Answer:
primary looking muscle or ligament spasm, secondarily consider joint issue.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the knee stiffness is related to muscle or ligament spasm in particular posture of the limb.

If this has happened for single episode, it is going to recover within some time span, but if happening on & off then has to be evaluated with ortho specialist to rule out other causes of joint problems or so forth.

My guidelines at present

@ Avoid more than 90 degree bending of knee till possible.
@ Use alternate application of icing pack and heating pad to get more better results.
@ Local application of analgesic spray or ointment over the part will give instant relief.
@ Tablet Aleve 3 times a day after meals with antacid as ranitidine or else.
@ Keep your blood sugar, body weight under control.
@ Consume balanced nutritious diet with proper intake of proteins, carbohydrates, calcium particularly.
@ Remain ambulatory and do gentle stretching exercises regularly to keep the joint in best possible shape.

Hope this information will satisfy your query.
Feel free to ask further doubts.
Wish you fine health.
Take care.
