Question: Hi there,

My daughter is 5.5 years old. For the last 6 months she has measured 111cm tall. She is growing in weight, so she is nearly 20kg. I've only noticed because we've been to the pediatrician maybe 2 or 3 times in the last six months, and each time she has measured my daughter's height and it's been 111cm each time.
Previous to this, she was 108cm in May last year. So it's almost like she stopped growing in height for the last six months.
Her feet are growing.
Should I be concerned? Or does growth spurt just happen sporadically?
She is healthy, she eats normally and she drinks milk 2 times a day or more, so she is getting her calcium.

No worries. Please see detailed answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and attached image. Here is my advice.

Usually In girls, growth spurt occurs in first year of life and after that during 8 to 12 years of age. In between usually height increases by 4 to 5 cm yearly. Every child grows at different rate.

As per attached growth chart, your daughter height is around 50 percentile i. e. 50% girls having same height at this age which is within normal limit. I would suggest you to do regular follow up with pediatrician and maintain growth chart.

Then also kindly follow following measures which may help to increase height.
1. Give balanced diet.
2. Stretching exercises, hanging, skipping, swimming.
3. Jogging exercises and good sleep.
