Question: Hi,

This is sort of difficult to explain but I’ll try. I am 56 and in menopause. Last year I have had almost daily, stomach growling and so hungry even when I have just eaten. Stomach just growls and I have loose sometimes hard to hold in stools. It’s just daily and so frustrating. Have acid a lot, gas and feel nauseous a some times. Help! Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Needs clinical examination and investigations as suggested.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns, also noted that you are on Zoloft.
Nausea, gas, loose stool, growling stomach and too much hunger can be due to the following reasons:
IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome.
Gastroenteritis.
Some medical conditions like thyroid over function, diabetes and so on.
Hence it is imperative to come to a proper diagnosis so that a specific treatment can be given with beneficial effects.
I would advise patients with similar problems the following in such a situation:
Clinical examination by a Doctor and if needed by a Gastroenterologist on reference of your Doctor.
Tests of stool for three days.
Tests of blood as per clinical examination: CBC, ESR, blood sugars with HbA1c, thyroid, liver functions and any additional as would be advised.
Ultrasound or CT scan of abdomen.
Upper GI Endoscopy and/or colonoscopy.
All these will help to get a proper diagnosis which in turn helps to have a specific and effective treatment.

I hope this answer helps you.
Please give feedback.
Take care.
Dr T Chandrakant.
