Question: Hi

I recently started taking an amino acid powder mix and noticed that my stomach completely changed; My feces are much drier and don't smell anymore. The latter is completely new; I cant remember any time that my feces were odorless.

Since I have had gut problems for a few months now, I wonder if this can hint me in direction of figuring out what's wrong with my gut.. I am not a vegetarian, so I don't understand why supplementing with amino acids would change my gut so significantly.

The amino acid mix contains all the nine essential amino acids and glutamine. It also contains betaine anhydrous and arginine-alpha-ketoglutarate.

Brief Answer:
Bad sign.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for choosing "Ask a Doctor" service for your query,
Have seen your details,
Firstly perfect stool should have an unpleasant odour which does not mean that it should smell like rotten egg neither should it smell like pleasant or odourless.
When you take food(any thing) it is digested by gut flora(Colonies of bacteria's).These good bacteria's ferment the food and hence add unpleasant odour to the digested food.

If taking a new amino acid supplement is making feces odourless. Its something to worry about.
It means that amino acids and their constituents are disturbing your normal gut flora.
I would suggest you to go for stool culture and sensitivity test to find out the condition of your gut flora.
Add any probiotic like VSL#3 twice daily for repletion of gut flora.

Thanks!
