Question: Hi I have had upper chest pain for 6 weeks. Initially thought it was a chest infection but took myself to a and e they completed bloods, x ray and ecg all was clear. Pain Is near central right side of trachea upper chest. 3 lots of antibiotics have been given, the last lot was a 7 day course which had reduced pain but it’s still there. Also have a dry cough in the morning. The doctors felt it is pleurisy but it’s not gone.

Brief Answer:
Get done endoscopic examination.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I don't think it is pleurisy because of normal chest x ray and not improving after antibiotics.
This is either simple musculoskeletal pain or some pathology inside trachea.
So better to get done endoscopic examination of trachea to rule out any internal pathology.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Hi thank you would this cause lung pain? Also I am concerned about lung cancer which is worrying me. I think g.p plans to send me for c.t scan so I’m hoping this will rule things out too.
