Question: Hi
I had my wisdom tooth extracted( all 4) about a month ago. Immediately after 2 days I have this tongue pain/burning sensation on the side of tongue only on the right. It’s been 5weeks now and the pain/burning has not subsided. I don’t feel any numbness on the affected side. Also, I don’t have any sores, sore throat and nothing except the burning pain. I am very concerned about this. Can you please help?

Brief Answer:
It can be due to temporary trauma to the nerve on that side

Detailed Answer:
Hiii first of all thank you for approaching us with your query. I read through your query and I must say that nothing to be worried be calm. It can be due to the slight trauma to the lingual nerve on that side while extraction of lower molar of that side. Always there need not be numbness of the tongue it can come as pain in some cases. It is transient trauma. It takes almost 3 months to become normal if it all its trauma to nerve. If the pain is too much at times you msy have to take painkillers on those particular days. Dont take it daily. I havint received the pics as you said. I suggest if you can take a cbct scan of that area. It will be transient but it takes time to heal the nerve injury. Hope you understood what I meant. Thankyou and have a healthy day. Dr Rohit

Thanks Doctor. The pain/burning sensation that I have mentioned is only during the day time it’s peak when I talk continuously. During the night I don’t feel any pain/burning everything feels normal. Can you please share your email id to share the picture of my tongue?
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Better to take a cbct scan

Detailed Answer:
Hiii thank you for your followup query. Sorry for the late reply. Reading through your query i feel that you should go and get cbct scan done on that side to see for the nerve and blood vessels.Burning sensation on speaking means it can be transient damage of the nerve or vessel. You can send the pics to the website they will forward it to me as I am not supposed to give my personal maid id according to website rule. Hope you understood what I meant. Thank you and have a healthy day. Dr Rohit
