What Causes Blood-tinged Stools In A Breastfed Child?
Question: Hi Doctor, attached is the pic of my baby's stool. It has some stain of blood. This has been happening since 2 days. She is staying active and is on breast milk throughout the day and at nights on Enfamil Stage1. Please let me know if this is something that we should be considered with.

Hi,
I am sorry but I am not able to find any attached pic. So I request you to reattach the same.
I won't get worried for mild staining of stool with blood if the baby is otherwise active, taking feeds well, there is no vomiting or abdominal fullness.
I would suggest you consult a pediatrician for examination of the perianal area as little unnoticed cut/trauma can cause blood in the stool.
Cow milk protein allergy may cause blood in stool but as the baby is on predominantly breastfeed chances are less.
If blood in stool persists or increases further investigations may be needed or you may need to stop formula feed.
So continue with the same feed and consult your pediatrician for a clinical examination.
