Question: Hello there hoping you can help me out I am 48 and I have been suffering from teeth pain now I do suffer from tmj and I do grind my teeth at night so for the last 2 or 3 days I find my teeth hurt but I have been chewing gum also when I brush or use my water pick my gum hurts I cannot get in to see my dentist till Friday I am currently starting a salt water rinse and not chewing gum is there anything else I can do is mouthwash good

This is Dr. Priyanka tiwari answering your query.

I have read your query and understand your concern. As far as teeth and tmj pain is concerned it can be due to Temporomandibular disorder. i will suggest you few measures you can follow that it will help you.

- Take soft diet.
- Restrict your mouth opening (Avoid excessive wide mouth opening)
- Do hot formentation (take hot water and dip towel in it and squeeze it ) place towel on your tmj jaw area. Do it twice daily.
- Apply ointment like diclofenac gel on tmj joint area twice daily .
- For pain you can take One tablet like Tablet Myospaz forte or flexon MR once daily after consulting with local doctor .
- consult dentist for appliance Night guard for teeth grinding.
