Question: Hello, doctor and thank u for your advice on a throat issue of a feeling of mucous and some difficulty swallowing. My doctor agreed it is most likely Globus Pharyngeus and as u recommeded, prescibed amitriptyline and a low dose of Klonopin. Last question for u - the symptoms are predominantly on the left side of throat and some discomfort in the left ear. Is this common to have this condition affect only one side and radiate slightly into the ear? Thanks so much for your answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me and interesting observation about globus pharyngeous.

It is common to have predominant symptoms on one side but generally it have varied presentation. I means to say that the G. P. can affect left side, right side, middle part in various combinations and over a period of time the symptoms dominance can shift from one area to another area.

It is also possible that due to varied presentation you are feeling more symptoms on the left side and over a period of time you may have very different presentation. It is also possible that the left side dominance of symptoms is due to treatment with medication and over a period of time you may have similar response on the left side.

In nutshell, there is nothing to worry and we need to observe for treatment response over the next couple of weeks. I also like to emphasize that please keep your treating doctor in loop before complete remission of symptoms.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
