Hello And Looking Forward To Hearing Back. I Am Currently

Question: Hello and looking forward to hearing back.

I am currently on a script for Viibryd - which has been one of the only anti depressants that has helped me in many years. I take a small dose 15 mg - and its been pretty good minus a few side effects such as brain zaps and GI issues.

Anyway, my husband and I are trying to get pregnant and my doc really would like me to switch medications to Zoloft since there is not much research on the effectiveness of Viibryd in pregnancy. I know that I should do what is best for me and potential pregnancy (even though zoloft hasn't been great in the past) - and switch. I got a perscription for 50 mg from my doctor and I am wondering about the transition. I am thinking I will just start the zoloft, do i start at 25 or 50 mg? For how long? What are all the thoughts on this? Please answer asap!

Brief Answer:
Zoloft is safest in pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for using ask a doctor service

I can understand your concern. Yes there are not much studies on effectiveness and safety of Viibryd in pregnancy. Zoloft is considered as safest antidepressant in pregnancy.

You should start with low dose like 25 mg of Zoloft and in around 7-10 days you can increase the dose to 50 mg. Starting with low dose will minimise the risk of gastric side effects. This dose will help to control your symptoms and will not cause any harm to developing baby.

Thanks.

I hope this helps, please don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.

Ok so my question is - can I just start Zoloft today when I normally take the viibryd? I take it at night and I could just swap it out for the 25 z?
