Brief Answer:
Viral conjunctivitis will subside without any treatment in a few days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr Nayeem,

Welcome to Ask a Doctor Service.

Red eye is usually caused by viruses and will subside on its own in about a weeks' time.

However, some times the viral illness may predispose the eye for a bacterial infection and that can become troublesome and needs proper treatment.

The antibiotics needed to treat bacterial conjunctivitis can not be prescribed over this online forum and need a valid prescription from a doctor who has examined the patient.

I usually treat such cases with cirpofloxacin eye drops and if the discharge from the eyes is yellowish and significant in amount, then I would also add an oral antibiotic such as cefixime.

Please consult your local eye doctor and get your son examined to rule out bacterial conjunctivitis and follow his/her treatment.

I hope that answers your query.

Wishing your son a speedy recovery.

Best regards
