Question: Hello, My grandmother is recently diagnosed with UTI and has been suggested to take Niftas 100mg tablets 3 times a day for the same. She's already taken the same tablet for 5 days and we got the culture report today. (Culture report was requested on a sample taken on 4th Feb). She was advised to take Niftas for 7 days. is this ok to continue or do we need to change the medicine based on Culture report? please advise. is it ok

Based on the facts and urine culture report of your grand mother who has been diagnosed to have UTI .

In view of the culture report that you have uploaded the bacteria (E coli) are sensitive to Nitrofrantoin hence I would suggest to continue taking the same for two more weeks.

Nitrofurantoin is mild antibiotic and is very well tolerated by elderly people hence it is always safe and and with minimal side effects Since efficacy of Nitrofurantoin is enhanced in alkaline medium take urine alkalizer like Citralka along with Nitrofurantoin thrice daily .
