Hello My 7.5 Months Daughter Is Having Rubbing/Grating Sound In

Question: Hello

My 7.5 months daughter is having Rubbing/Grating sound in her knees and we can feel bone movement when she stretches her leg in a particular position since past 2-3 weeks specially when she is irriated. ( we first observed this when she had viral Fever 2-3 week back other there was no such sound earlier).in Normal course she is playing moving legs , Rocking ( Stage before crawling), started siting and getting up on her own and sit.

We visited a Pediatrician Ortho and he first suspected that it's patella of knee that could cause however later when he observed the knee ( we irritated our daughter) he updated that this is not related to patella and could be some ligament( he requested X-rays )

He said baby has dimples on both knee and patella seems to be small.

1) Can you please confirm that the dimples in the knee are normal for this age.

2) What could be possible cause of this grating/rubbing sound in both knees.

We again visited the pediatrician Ortho for the followup visit and showed the X-rays.

1 ) On seeing X-rays he told that baby has a mild hip dsyplacia on the left side however he said nothing is required for the moment and we will followup with after 2 months and lets see the baby development. On Manual Examination earlier he cleared that there was no problem in Hips.

He told even if it remains then the kid needs to be sit in a harness to correct it and there can be no intervention till 3-4 years.
Please share your views

2) after seeing the knee x-rays he told he need lateral X-rays as bone in the AP views seems OK,he was earlier suspecting nail patella syndrome however told us Nails are clear and other associated symptoms are not there so it can't be that however he is saying that patella is small ,i am not understanding this point why he is saying this as in babies patella is still in developing stage.

Brief Answer:
Can be post viral arthralgia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Dimples in the knee in case of babies can be a normal finding due to the extra pads of fat in the legs. The grating sound in the knee can be related to mild capsular inflammation that can happen after a viral infection. This usually subsides with mild anti inflammatory medicines and calcium supplements in 8-10 weeks.
Mild hip dysplasia at 7.5 months is an early diagnosis. Hip is still in the developing stage and needs a re assessment after one year. This is not likely to be related to the grating noise in the knee.
The small size of patella is a relative term and does not suggest any anomaly. Since it develops late in some babies there is no need to worry.
I hope this answers your query.
