Hello, I Was On Prednisone 60mg For 10 Days, Then

Question: Hello,

I was on prednisone 60mg for 10 days, then tapered to 50 mg for three days, and then had to stop taking (as directed by my doctor) due to severe panic attacks and mood swings. I still feel “off” one month after stopping, with extreme anxiety, and my heart rate is still consistently high. Is this because I didn’t taper correctly? Did I do permanent damage? Will this anxiety go away soon?

Brief Answer:
Damage not permanent

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Your complaints could indeed be due to improper tapering, especially from a high dose. Don't worry, the damage is not permanent and your anxiety should go away soon. Nevertheless, follow up with your treating physician is recommended.
