Brief Answer:
There can be several causes which should get evaluated..

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, there can be several causes for that which should get evaluated.

Kindly follow up with a bit more information,
Do you have history of injury /sprain, backache/pain radiating to leg, tingling or numbness in legs, joints pain?

For further assessment, I would suggest you to consult with orthopedician for detailed clinical examination.

He may procure MRI back including hip joints, nerve conduction studies as per evaluation to rule out any other possibilities for muscle sprain/sciatica/arthritis.

Further treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition. You may also require physical therapy after physiotherapist consultation.

Till then avoid long sitting and maintain proper posture. Do regular stretching exercises.

Hope I have answered your query...
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
It doesn't seem serious....

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

As per your history, as you don't have pain/tingling sensation so I think it may not be serious.

Snapping sensation may be due to movement of tendon over bony part of hip joints.

For that continue stretching exercises and physical therapy after physiotherapist consultation.

Along with that kindly follow all measures as suggested earlier.

Hope I have answered your query...
