Hello, I Have Somehow Like An Idiot Melted Plastic On

Question: Hello, I have somehow like an idiot melted plastic on the stovetop three times during the first trimester of pregnancy. I'm so mad at myself. Each time the exposure was brief -- an inhalation or two. Since the first two exposures I have had ultrasounds and the baby's growth is normal and the heart beat was strong. Tonight was the third exposure at 13 weeks pregnant, I had one inhalation where I smelled the melted plastic, though I didn't realize it was a plastic bag that part of had melted and sat and ate dinner in the kitchen. I didn't notice any smell while eating. I also then ate some food that was next to the burnt plastic. None of the times have I felt sick at all. Have I harmed the baby?

Brief Answer:
Not likely to affect the baby.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.

Inhalation of a few fumes of burnt plastic does not cause any long-lasting effect on the growing baby. The exposure you had today will be considered a minor one and is not worrisome.

You can get a level II scan done at 18 weeks to rule out any abnormalities.

Hope this answers your question.
Any follow up queries are welcome.

Thank you for your answer.

One follow up question:
And there also isn’t cause for concern about the cumulative effect of the three minor exposures?

Brief Answer:
This will not cause a cumulative effect.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
A cumulative effect is seen if there is a chronic and daily exposure for a considerable time. This is just an occasional exposure and does not show a cumulative effect. No need to worry.
Hope this answer is helpful.
