I have question about HSV 2 ( genital herpes) and meningitis
How much people who have HSV 2 get meningitis that need hospitalization ?
As in literature it is said
The incidence of VM in the United States has been estimated to be 0.26-17 cases per 100,000 people [2]. A prospective cohort study published in 2018 by XXXXXXX McGill et al. showed that in United Kingdom adults, 55% of VM cases were caused by enteroviruses, followed by HSV as the second most common cause at 44%
HSV meningitis is caused by HSV2

But as much as 20 % in population is HSV 2 antibodies positive - and mathematic 100 000 / 5 = 20 000/ 5 = 4000 or olny 0,025 % get HSV2 hospitalization
But in old literature it is said that 2 % man and 6 % will HSV 2 genital herpes will get meningitis for hospital admission

I am practicing STI and HIV Medicine for more than 35 years. I had come across and managed thousands of Genital Herpes cases so far. I had not come across a single case of meningitis through HSV 2. I attended around hundred national conferences on STI and HIV/AIDS during these years. I had not come across such a presentations anywhere. at the same time I had come across 3 cases of HSV 1 encephalitis and also have read few case reports of encephalitis due to HSV 1. Meningitis due to HSV 2 is very extremely rare.
