Question: Hello. I have concerns of onset als. Two weeks ago, I began to have twitching in multiple areas of my body. I noticed mostly when laying down. That persisted for two weeks. I noticed, when under stress, the fasciculations would be more intense. My shoulders, arms, neck, chest, trunk, legs and calves would present with them. I was unable to sleep for nearly two weeks due to them. They have decreased dramatically and I%E2%80%99m able to rest. I%E2%80%99ve now noticed an increase in dampness in both my feet. My calves have twitches after walking as i have experienced tightness and injury with them dating back to 2015. Comsidering all the time I%E2%80%99ve had to use google - I%E2%80%99ve read some terrifying things. looking for any knowledge i can gain before my neuro appointment which is weeks away!

Brief Answer:
I don't think yours is a case of ALS. Other conditions possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to " Ask a Doctor " service.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

ALS is very unlikely to be the condition that is causing your symptoms because there is no muscles weakness or wasting, or other symptoms such as difficulty walking or doing activities, problems with speech, coordination, etc.

In the other hand, the twitches that decreased indicate more conditions such as benign fasciculations syndrome ( a condition often self limiting ), electrolytes imbalance in blood ( dehydrated for example ), etc.

So, I don't think you should be worried much more than necessary about ALS.

The appointment with your Neurologist will clear your doubts.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
