Question: Hello I am a 24 M, Caucasian, 175 lbs, non smoker. I have been experiencing mild coming and going pain in my right temple area. I can also feel a pulse in the general area where I feel the pain. Overall it is mild but concerning because it has been consistent. I have been hydrated so I don’t think that’s the issue so I am not sure

Brief Answer:
it could be temporal arteritis, but need more information

Detailed Answer:
Hello Tkmeiser,

Thanks for posting your query. I have read it, and understand your health concern.

Going by the history that you have given, it could be temporal arteritis; but we need to rule this out. Also, temporal arteritis is common after the age of 50 years, and is more common in women. So, an acute episode of Migraine is the second possibility.

I would require more information from you.

- you are on insulin. are you insulin dependent diabetic patient (IDDM)? What was the value of your last blood sugar test?
- was there any injury to the affected temporal area?
- was there any bee bite or sting?
- Since when are you having these symptoms?
- Is there previous history of Migraine or other kinds of headaches?
- I am glad you are a non-smoker. But, do you consume excess alcohol?

If these symptoms are short lived or acute in onset, and lasting for a few days only; then you need not worry. In such case you can take over the counter available painkillers like Panadol three times a day after food for a couple of days. The pain should be gone by then. Continue to maintain your body hydration to optimal level.

Awaiting your response.

Regards,
Dr Shanthi E
