Question: Hello,
Are you familiar with nummular headaches? I was diagnosed with this type of headache. I have been suffering with these headaches for almost 6 years. I finally have a name for this headache after constant doctor's visits, any type of medication under the sun, and lots and lots and lots of infusions with drugs. I just want to get rid of them altogether. Is there any surgical procedure that can help this? I am done suffering!!!! This is a rare type of headache, so hopefully you will have some insight into this.

Brief Answer:
OnabotulinumtoxinA injections may help in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question here at "Ask a Doctor" service.

I have read your query.

Good for you since you had the diagnosis for your issues.

It is true that nummular headaches are rare and often difficult to be diagnosed, yet these are considered as primary headaches.

The treatment also is difficult and includes antiseizure drugs, antidepressants ( these drugs have antineuralgic proprietors too) but with limited success rate.

OnabotulinumtoxinA injections on the affected area have shown satisfactory results, and it can be repeated after a few months if necessary.

There are no surgical procedures for this diagnosis.

I hope you found the answer helpful.

Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
