Question: Good Morning. I live in Geneva-Switzerland.At present in XXXXXXX in XXXXXXX since Decemeber 2019
I am having very frequently dry cough some times continuously and some times with short Intervals. My doctors in Geneva advised me some time back this is due to the acidity and advised me to take Pantoprazol 40 one capsule daily. When it it was more I was advised to take Tavanic 500 for 5days and XXXXXXX Levoday 500 for days. I am continuing the Pantoprazol daily. Now a days I am getting the cough frequently. Cough syrups have not much effect. Kindly advise

Thanks for your query.
Actually it depends upon the exact cause of cough. If we accept the diagnosis of due to acidity and pantoprazole is not helping, we often add a prokinetic tablet like domperidone 10 mg before meals. This helps to keep the reflux at bay.
Now, if there is mild asthma associated with it then specific treatment like inhaled steroids (eg. budamate 200 mcg 2 puffs twice daily) are usually added with good relief.
Also I think at least a chest radiograph should be done.

Shall I continue the same. with Domperidone. Still I have frequent coughing. Can you advise a VERY effective Cough Syrup I will also use Budamet 200 mg as advised by you.

Usual dose of domepridone is 1 tablet thrice daily before meals. Pantoprazole is continued along with it.
Any levocloperastine containing syrup 5 ml thrice daily usually controls dry cough without sedation.
