Question: Good Evening. Happy Thanksgiving. I accidentally got a drop of peppermint essential oil in my eye. I immediately flushed it with fresh water. Then I looked online to find out what else to do. I read that I should put a drop of milk in my eye. So I did and flushed again with fresh water. Then I read to put olive oil on a tissue and wipe the eye. I did that. The stinging stopped. Should I do anything else?

Brief Answer:
You should be fine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. The peppermint essential oil can be very irritating to the eye, but it shouldn't cause any damage. As long as the stinging has stopped, you should be fine.

I hope that helps! Happy Thanksgiving and I hope you have a good rest of your night. Please let me know if you have any other questions, I would be glad to answer them.
