I have experienced this sensation on and off fro about twenty years. One dr diagnosed me as having mild asthma but my oxegen and peak flow levels are normal and my inhaler does not provide relief. I have had a full cardiac work up more than once. My last work up was last year (EKG, Holter and Echo) all was normal with the exception of Tachycardia with a normal rhythm. Cardiologist felt like it was related to anxiety. Last dr diagnosed a vocal cord issue rather than asthma. I passed carefully through your question and would explain that as you have more difficulty in inspiration, it could be suggestive of a vocal cord dysfunction.
It is less likely that your symptoms are related to the heart, considering your description of your complaints and your performed cardiac tests.
For this reason, I would recommend consulting with an ENT specialist for a physical exam and a laringoscopy.
Hope you will find this information helpful!
