Brief Answer:
Don't wait for swelling to subside.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
Fracture patella is always accompanied with swelling due to bleeding inside the knee joint. The swelling may take a long time to subside. We don't wait for the swelling to subside in Fracture patella but operate and fix it straight away.
Fixing patella without wailing for swelling to subside does not cause any side effects. So please go ahead for surgery.
Thanks.

Pl see below

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Normally fracture site is opened by cutting skin , Fracture is reduced and is fixed by wires. wound is closed.
Any change in procedure depends on your fracture pattern.
I give all my patients ,post slab or cast and mobilize them after 1 day( for recovery from anesthesia.
I suggest you discuss in detail with your surgeon.
Thanks
