Question: my wife can press on her lower leg and it leaves a deep dent that stays there for a while. she is 57, 5'4" 195lbs. she has high blood pressure and takes hydrochlorothyazide (?) for it. she had a 9" fatty tumor removed from between the bones of her left calf last summer. she also has some gigantic kidney stones that the drs haved decided to do nothing about unless they start causing problems. she has had kidney and uti problems since childhood. she was also diagnosed as pre-diabetic last summer. she has a dr appt feb 15 but should i take her in earlier?

Brief Answer:
Should get renal function test done

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

It doesn't appear to be an emergency but kidney function tests should be done on early basis, so if you can arrange for earlier date or even could get kidney function test done that would be better. If it's a kidney problem then we just need to check potassium levels, otherwise not an emergency. She will also need hemogram as a part of evaluation.
The edema is on one side or on both sides..If bilateral likely possibility if of kidney disease, other possibility is of low hemoglobin, sometimes in heart disease. if it's on one side then it can be venous insufficiency due to surgery which she had. She should have low salt diet and doctor will prescribe her diuretics to decrease the edema.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.

I have a question about the dr's response to my question. there is something im unclear about in hi suggestions. In the dr's response he said "if you could get an earlier date or even a kidney function test that would be better." Was he referring to my wife's feb 15 dr appt?

Brief Answer:
See the description

Detailed Answer:
sorry for that..
Yes, that's for earlier appointment. I guess only after doctors visit you will be able to get kidney function test done. But if it's possible for you to get potassium levels done without doctors advice and it's normal then you can visit on scheduled appointment date.
Alternatively, is kidney function test done in recent past and, if yes and it was normal, then also you can visit on scheduled date.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care,
