Brief Answer:
Auto immunity in Type 1 DM

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted the question,
Very interesting question. Yes, the progenitor stem cells continue to make develop in to small amount of beta cells. However, persisting autoimmunity kills them.
However, there are several research going on to suppress the auto immunity which includes several vaccines, immune suppressor medicines, immune modulator medicines etc. These are given prior to stem cell transplantation.
Many tertiary level teaching hospital offer stem cell transplantation as a treatment now a days for Type 1 DM. The success is not 100% , but soon it will be reality.
