What Could Cause A Constant Salty Taste In The Mouth Over The Last Two Months?

Question: Dear Doctor ,

I am facing strange problem from last 2 months ..its salty taste all the time inside my mouth.

It was happened first time last month and recovered after 2 weeks . Now again after 15-20 past last incident i am facing same problem again.

Please share your insight , what couple be the reason of this problem.

Salty taste in mouth can be due to a number of causes like dry mouth, infection etc.

Please provide following details so that I can guide you better.

- Is there dryness in mouth?
- Do you have any infection in tooth or gum infection?
- Any swelling under the jaw or cheek?
- Do you take any medicine?
- Any known medical condition or allergies?
- Do you have any acidity problem or burning sensation in chest?
- Sinus problems like blocked nose or mucous drainage in throat?

hi Doctor,

1. no dryness inside mouth
2. No infection noticed inside tooth or gum?
3. no swelling
4. colestrol control medicine.
5. No allergies
6. sometimes when eating spicy food.

My water intake is hardly 500 ml in a day and from many years.

please suggest with your wisdom on this issue.

Can be due to less water intake.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Well the symptoms seems to be most probably due to less water intake.
However a clinical examination should be done by an Oral physician to rule out or eliminate other causes.
For now you should increase your water intake for about 2-3 liters.
Also chew sugar free chewing gums.
Suck lemon drops.
Clean your tongue daily using a tongue scraper.
