Yes , patients with Afib can throw a clot. It is because patients with Afib , the upper chambers of the heart ( Atria ) doesn't contract properly and because of that there is stasis of blood in heart which gets clotted . And this clot gets detached from heart and travels in blood vessels and obstruct blood flow to any part of the body.
