Brief Answer:
Yes, you can!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

TB is transmitted through air droplets. If you happen to sit beside someone who coughs and has TB, the chances are that you can inhale the germ.

Not all persons who inhale TB germ will get infected. If you inhale just a few, is healthy and have no disease, the body in most cases will be able to get the germ locked up and you will not get infected. If your immune system is weak from other illnesses, poor nutrition, medications, etc., you may easily go on to develop the infection.

Best approach is to avoid sitting next to persons who cough and if they do cough, endeavor to use a mask to cover your nose before breathing.

However, short contacts on the bus are unlikely to cause much inhalation and infection.

I hope this helps and guides. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.

Brief Answer:
YOu are fine!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If that happened just once, there is no reason to be worried. Persons with TB would even cough all the way and will look very sick. Besides, you turned away and wore a mask which makes you very much safe.

I wish you well and feel free to follow up if you have any unaddressed worried on your mind.
