Can Anxiety Ans Stress Cause A Sudden Spike In Heart Rates?

Question: Hey doctor,

I just had a question about heart beats in particular. I am a very anxious person all round but I notice when I am kind of tense or full of adrenaline that my heart beat sometimes bulges out only a tiny little section I have linked this video demonstrating it happening last night:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA3JhT1RQb4

Is this a normal thing to occur for a 20-year-old male I am pretty sure I have had that happen for a very long time even as a kid? I have had my heart checked before when I have been to the doctors and they said it was all good along with my blood pressure etc I do suffer from stomach problems and sometimes acid reflux with pain in that area as well but that's also been check out with an endoscopy/colonoscopy.

Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

After going through the medical details provided by you I understand your concern for your health and I would like to tell you that probably there are ectopics happening along with tachycardia.

Anxiety and stress both are very important triggering factors for fast heart rates. And when heart beats too fast it doesn't contracts fully due to which you get the feeling of incomplete beating.

It's advisable that you should kindly get few tests done like

1. ECG
2. Echocardiography
3. Thyroid function test

If you have already done these tests kindly upload the report for review.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks for that doctor I will have a look into those tests, I have done the thyroid function test before and that was fine but I have never done the other two before. What did you think of the video I link of the heartbeat is that unusual?

My resting rate isn't high either so could I still have tachycardia? Last time I had it checked it was 66bpm and my blood pressure was 122/71 mmHg.

Also is there any treatment that may be needed if I otherwise feel fine?

Brief Answer:

Treatment is required.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

No treatment is required and i have seen that video which you have uploaded and those are just visible pulsations.

You just need to get an ECG and Echocardiography done once to make sure heart is structurally alright.

No if resting heart rate is around 60-80 bpm its not tachycardia.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
