Can HIV Be Contracted Through Usage Of Infected Razor?

Posted on Tue, 10 Nov 2015
Question: My son is a college freshman. His roomate borrowed his razor with out telling him. My son used the razor the next day. It is one of those multi blade safety razors.

Is there a possibility for blood borne illness esp HIV?
at least 30 hours had passed since his roomate used it
it was in a medicine cabinet with the door closed
before my son used it he rinsed it with hot water from the shower head and banged it against the side of the shower to clean it.

is 30 hours enough time for the HIV to die even if it was in a dark medicine cabinet. I have heard minutes, but seen other figures on the net

Would the blast of hot water sufficiently clean it

Brief Answer:
no chance of HIV

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

there is no way to contract HIV this way, so don't be alarmed and anxious about it. HIV cannot survive outside the body for so long, so this kind of indirect transmission is impossible.

I hope this is reassuring enough!

Kind Regards!
