Can Forteo Be Taken While Having Monoclonal Gammopathy Of Undetermined Significance?

Question: I have severe osteoporosis and 4 endocrinologists have wanted me to take Prolia. From what I've read, bone loss will recontinue if I do not take a medication like Forteo. However, I can't take Forteo because I have monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance. The doctors I've seen are not aware of the info. Hopefully, you can help. Of do you suggest I see a hematologist also? Thank you.

Hello,

Recombinant human parathyroid hormone, teriparatide (Forteo), is a new compound that has been shown to be successful in the treatment of osteoporosis.

There are cases with monoclonal gammopathy of uncertain significance (MGUS) who developed malignant myeloma after teriparatide treatment and is suggested that in addition to malignant myeloma and smouldering myeloma, MGUS should also be considered contraindicated for teriparatide treatment.

I would suggest not to be treated with Forteo, probably the hematologist will convince your treating physician.
