Are Wheezing, Swollen Eyelids, Pain In The Chest And Stomach Indicative Of Allergic Reactions?

Question: Hi, my girlfriend was in bed and felt a pain in her stomach. She later felt a pain in her chest and under her ribs. She had trouble breathing and was wheezing. Her eyelids were swollen and her throat was closed. The stomach pain still persists but the breathing is much better. I was wondering what the cause of this could be and what actions to take. If possible a fast reply would be much appreciated.

Brief Answer:

Allergic reaction

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

This sounds like a significant allergic reaction. I can't say to what, but it would likely be food or possibly an insect bite.

As allergic reactions can persist, I recommend she take an antihistamine such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) or hydroxyzine and go in to be seen in person, especially if there continues to be any swelling in or around her mouth, her throat, or any return of breathing difficulty.

She may need to do some sleuthing to figure out what set her off and talk with her doctor to discuss carrying an epinephrine auto-injection pen for the future.

May need allergy testing too, if she is not able to identify what caused the reaction.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
