Age 39 And Recently Entered Early Menapause (confirmed By Bloodwork

Question: Age 39 and recently entered early menapause (confirmed by bloodwork FSH levels). I haven’t had any real symptoms other than no period. My doctor had put me on birth control for hormone replacement. Apparently this is for bone health. The problem is that I’ve never tolerated birth control pills in my life. I get horrible mood swings and anxiety (including panic attacks) which I am now having again that I am on the pill again. The Dr has changed to a different pill, but it it’s the same for me. I’m thinking of stopping but worried about the impact to bone density. Are there other bone density treatments available with less side effects?

Brief Answer:
HRT is the best option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
After menopause the best treatment to maintain the bone density is hormone replacement therapy. Other than that you can start with calcium and vitamin D3 supplements to help maintain the bone health. In case you are having too many side effects with the pills then it is best to stop the pills after consulting with your doctor.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
