Question: A month ago I tested positive for Chlamydia. I have taken the antibiotics & no longer am showing any symptoms. My question would be when will I be tested negative on a Chlamydia IGG antibody test after the treatment. Only a Chlamydia IGG test is available to me.

Brief Answer:
Regarding test for chlamydia

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.

IgG positivity for chlamydia may stay for a very long time, even life time, as an indicator of past infection. For this reason, it is not a test for cure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

If a month after my treatment, when I take a Chlamydia IGM antibody test, will it show a negative or positive result?

Hi Dr,

May I question was referring to IGM antibody testing for chlamydia not IGG.

Will IGM antibody test for chlamydia still test positive after 1 month of treatment & no longer having any symptoms?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Regarding immune response to chlamydia

Detailed Answer:
hi.
IgM is the initial antibody type that appears in blood. It usually makes it appearance after a week of infection, stays for 3-4 weeks and then decline in another 2-4 weeks by which time IgG is the predominant antibody type. So, at 1 month though it may still be detectable, it would have started to decline.
Take care
